April 16, 2014 – Clearwater, FL – MarineMax announced today that the MarineMax Fishing Team had great success at the Clearwater YMCA Flats Fishing Classic. The team brought home 4 awards. First-place snook, second-place redfish and third-place trout in the amateur division and first-place trout in the pro-guide division.
The Captain’s Party was held Thursday night with appetizers and buffet dinner along with silent and live auctions featuring fishing items, trips, artwork and more. The auctions raised approximately $75,000 while the participants bid up items often to more than the stated value.
“The Y needs help from the community to continue its vital work,” explained Eric Keaton, Vice President of Marketing and Communications YMCA of the Suncoast. “The substantial donations and gifts received during the tournament will help strengthen the communities we serve.”
The tournament has a unique format. The amateur division is comprised of anglers with their own boats and can begin the tournament from anywhere on the west coast of Florida at 6 AM. There were 9 amateur boats with 30 anglers. The pro-guide division has teams of 3 to 4 anglers on 27 boats with well-known local professional guides. There were 90 anglers in the pro-guide division. They leave the docks of the Carlouel Yacht Club in Clearwater Beach at 8 AM. Anglers from both divisions check in at the Carlouel Yacht Club from 11 AM to 2 PM with awards and buffet immediately following.
