The 2014 New Smyrna Beach FishStock, a one-of-a-kind saltwater lifestyle festival of fishing and fun, returns to Volusia County this Memorial Day weekend, May 22-25. FishStock, now in its 12th year.
This year FishStock will launch the inaugural New Smyrna Beach Billfish Open at FishStock presented by Boston Whaler and MarineMax. This tournament will pit anglers for overall points and daily jackpots throughout two days of fishing for blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish and sailfish. The tournament will feature a relaxed format, and award the top three billfish-release teams and daily billfish-release jackpot winners. Billfish Open teams will also have the option of competing for additional cash and prizes by entering the New Smyrna Beach Striker tournament presented by Boston Whaler and MarineMax, targeting wahoo, dolphin, tuna and kingfish.
The festival has also added new Sunday activities, highlighted by a chowder cook-off featuring local chefs and restaurants, with proceeds going to charity.
The New Smyrna Beach Redfish & Trout Challenge presented by Boston Whaler and Marine Max has become one of the most popular inshore tournaments in the country. This year’s event will add more excitement for both days of fishing by converting the optional redfish, trout and most-spots divisions to daily jackpots. Also there will be more time on the water this year for the anglers. Participants will be allowed to launch anywhere in Volusia County and be on their honey hole at the 6:30 a.m. lines-in time.
“This is the first time that billfish have been added to the mix and the MarineMax Fishing Team is ready for the challenge,” expressed Kimberly Machnik, Store Manager, MarineMax Daytona. “With three tournaments, a boat show, a 5K run, music and the new Chowder Cook-off, FishStock as a whole, celebrates the fishing and community lifestyle in New Smyrna Beach, one of the premiere fishing venues in Florida.”
FishStock is a family-friendly festival and the tournaments will also continue to be family oriented, with easygoing rules and great women’s and junior angler awards. For a complete schedule of events visit http://www.fishstock.com.
