Marine Industry Day

South Florida has long been recognized as a world-renowned boating capital, but few realize its local marine industry is the lead economic driver. Most do not realize this but, in Broward County alone, the local marine industry builders, marinas, sales, service and support businesses generate in excess of seven billion dollars and provide employment for 90,000 skilled workers.

The Marine Industries Association of South Florida/MIASF along with several related marine associations (FYBA, YPY, USSA) and media, plan a series of events to develop exposure, educate and build awareness for this key group of businesses and the vital role they play in the economic growth and development of South Florida.

MarineMax Pompano had the pleasure of participating in this year’s inaugural Marine Industry Day. This event allowed our team members and their families to enjoy a day of fun in the sun! We could not have given back to our team members with this successful event if it was not for MIASF. “We were happy to have been able to participate in this first Marine Industry Day and show our team members just how much we appreciate their hard work and ensure our industry remain strong,” said Paul Cummings, General Manager of MarineMax Pompano.

Proclaimed by the City of Fort Lauderdale, the 2014 “Marine Industry Day” on Wednesday, June 11, brought recognition to South Florida’s diverse marine industry workforce and families who comprise the foundation of Broward’s number one economic driver.

“We feel it’s vital that the public and officials realize the boating and yachting activities that Fort Lauderdale is known for generate thousands of middle class jobs and many billions in spending and revenue for the South Florida economy, said MIASF Director Phil Purcell. “Fort Lauderdale’s water related reputation is world-renowned and culminates each October with the MIASF owned Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show which draws thousands of exhibitors and enthusiasts from all parts of the globe. ” Saturday afternoon June 14 saw a fun–filled, social gathering of industry workers and families at Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale intended to celebrate and recognize the incredible impact these craftsmen and businesses represent to the South Florida Region. The gathering will also provide opportunities to network, build relationships and help to realize the value each skilled individual brings to the growth and continued development of the world’s leading yacht and boating capital.
