Free Fishing Seminar – Catching King Mackerel – MarineMax Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla., (August 19, 2015) – MarineMax Panama City Beach will be hosting a free seminar on targeting and landing king mackerel, September 12, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The seminar precedes the Treasure Island Marina’s Annual King Mackerel Tournament which will be held September 19, 2015.
“Our resident instructor Tom Putnam, Owner of Half-Hitch Tackle Stores, along with professional fisherman Tim Broom, Manager of Half Hitch Tackle, Destin, will teach the techniques, methodology and proper tackle for catching these powerful game fish,” said seminar host Bob Fowler, sales consultant and broker, MarineMax Panama City Beach. “With the king mackerel tournament one week away, this is a perfect opportunity to hone your skills and gain confidence.”

King mackerel are streamlined and a very fast species. Most king mackerel caught in the area are 2 to 3 feet, but larger ones can exceed 5 feet.

“These popular pelagic predators will have your reels screaming and put up a really good fight,” continued Fowler. “Having the proper tackle and knowing how to target and land king mackerel will give you a great advantage.”

As usual, your host Bob Fowler, will be providing the ‘half-time entertainment’ with his professional vocal styling.

MarineMax Wrightsville Beach Out for a Win at the Southport Inshore Challenge

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C., (June 16, 2015) – On June 21, 2015 MarineMax Wrightsville Beach will compete with some of the best inshore anglers in the Greater Wilmington area at the Fisherman’s Post Southport Inshore Challenge. The tournament targets flounder and features a Tournament Within a Tournament (TWT) for red drum.

“Last year our MarineMax Wrightsville Beach fishing team didn’t make the leaderboard,” said Thom Cross, MarineMax Wrightsville Beach Store Manager. “This year the team is going all out to win.”

The MarineMax Wrightsville Beach team will consist of, team captain Wes Edwards and crew Zachary Messick and Jack Humphrey. They will be fishing from a Boston Whaler 210 Dauntless with team graphics.

The Southport Inshore Challenge’s primary prize category is the heaviest 2 flounder aggregate weight. However, there are several TWTs including heaviest single red drum, Junior Angler and Senior Angler.

With over $15,000 in cash payouts, the tournament is a family friendly relaxed event with rules that allow both live and dead weigh in. The tournament organizers are committed to conservation and will be awarding bonus cash payouts for fish making the leader board in releasable condition. However, the organizers do not want to penalize crews that do not have the ability to keep large flounder or red drum alive.

The tournament will be held at Southport Marina. The Captain’s Meeting will be held on June 19, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. The fishing, Awards Party and Awards Ceremony will be June 20, 2015. The tournament has an honor start at 6:00 a.m. and weigh in is over at 4:00 p.m. Boats with weighable fish must be in line by 4:00 p.m.

“We had a lot of fun last year. This is a relaxed, low key tournament run by the good people at Fisherman’s Post,” concluded Wes Edwards, MarineMax Parts Manager. “We are determined to get on the board this year. We would love to have people come on down and cheer us on.”

MarineMax Fishing Team Takes on the Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational

July 15, 2014 – Brick, NJ – MarineMax announced today that the MarineMax Fishing Team will be a sponsor for the 2014 Wrightsville Beach Inshore Challenge, one of the Fisherman’s Post Inshore Tournament Trail events. The MarineMax Fishing Team will also be competing in the tournament as one of the MarineMax Saltwater Series of tournaments on their new Sailfish 2100 Bay Boat.

”The Wrightsville event will be held July 18-19, several weeks later in the year than previous events which used to be hosted in late May. Our hope is that the later date means a better flounder bite for the participating anglers—more anglers catching more and bigger fish,” explained Max Gaspeny of the Fisherman’s Post in the tournament’s welcome message. “We’re also confident that anglers will stand some solid chances at catching red drum in mid to late July, so in response to feedback from anglers in 2013, we’ve returned to a split red drum/flounder leaderboard for the Wrightsville Beach Inshore Challenge.”

The competition is a single-day tournament targeting flounder and red drum. Awards will be presented to anglers who weigh the heaviest single red drum and heaviest flounder. There will be payouts for 8 places in each category, as well as heaviest fish by a junior, lady and senior angler.

There are three Tournaments within a Tournament (TWT) that anglers can elect to participate, single big flounder, single big red drum, and one flounder, one drum aggregate. Boats can enter any TWT or all three to maximize their odds.

The Registration Party will be held at the Wild Wing Cafe, July 18, at starting at 3 PM and continues through to 8 PM. The Captain’s Meeting will be at 6 PM the same evening and location. Fishing begins Saturday, July 19 at 6 AM and weigh-in at the Wrightsville Beach Marina begins at 1 PM and boats must be in line by 4 PM to weigh fish. The Awards Party starts at 4 PM to weigh fish. The Awards dinner will also be held at the Wild Wing Café 4:30 with the Awards Ceremony starting at 6 PM.

“The Wrightsville Beach Inshore Challenge is the second of four Fisherman’s Post inshore tournaments we are sponsoring this year,” explained Thom Cross, MarineMax Wrightsville Beach General Manager. “We are proud to support the local fishing community by sponsoring these popular grass root events. These tournaments are family friendly and the MarineMax Fishing Team is all about brining family and friends together to spend time on the water doing what we all enjoy so much – fishing.”
